Performance Race Week 2026 in St. Thomas delivered exactly what we aim for every event: five focused, high-energy days of racing, learning, and real performance development in a world-class venue.

This was a full-spectrum week built around the core elements that make sailors faster: teamwork and communication, boat handling under pressure, boat speed and sail trim, strategy and tactical decision-making, racing rules and situational awareness, and execution in both starts and distance racing.

How the Week Unfolded

The program followed our proven Performance Race Week structure, with each day building on the last:

Monday: Team development and fundamentals, establishing crew dynamics and baseline skills

Tuesday: High-wind conditions forced a pivot to demanding uprange sailing, creating an outstanding technical learning day

Wednesday: Start day, with intensive role rotation and repeated line reps

Thursday: Distance racing, including the signature run toward St. John

Friday: Championship racing, closing with multiple windward-leewards and a final distance race

From the first day on the water to the final finish, every session was designed to connect skills to real racing outcomes, giving teams immediate opportunities to apply what they learned.

A Finish That Matched the Intensity

After five days of racing, the overall standings came down to a tiebreaker. First place was decided by the final distance race around Great St. James Island—a fitting conclusion to a week defined by close racing, smart decisions, and consistent execution. It was a true Performance Race Week finish: earned on the water, under pressure, all the way to the last leg.

What Participants Said

Post-event feedback confirmed what we saw during the week:

  • Coaching quality and on-water time received top ratings
  • Practice starts and distance racing were the most-cited highlights

Several comments captured the overall experience:

“Perfect balance of lots of time on the water with brief, clear and useful classroom coaching and debriefing.”

“Practice starts and distance racing were my favorite parts of the week.”

“The IC24 was a surprisingly great platform for the class.”

“The staff and venue were very generous and chill.”

The likelihood of returning and recommending the program was also extremely high, particularly among repeat participants.

What This Week Demonstrated

St. Thomas 2026 showed what Performance Race Week is designed to be: a demanding but supportive learning environment where technical skills meet real competition, teamwork and preparation are rewarded, and small improvements translate directly into results.

What’s Next

We’re already incorporating feedback into upcoming events, including earlier coaching calibration, clearer debrief frameworks, expanded learning-focused video, more structured cross-team interaction, and enhanced pre- and post-event resources.

Highlights and additional content from St. Thomas—including distance racing footage and debrief material—are being posted on the North U YouTube channel for anyone who wants to revisit the week and continue learning.  Or maybe you should just come and join us in March.
