  • Has a bad fluxgate compass ever thrown off your navigation or autopilot?

Have you ever discovered that an inaccurate fluxgate compass was affecting your navigation or autopilot? How did you first notice, and what steps did you take to correct it? Sometimes all it takes is a calibration, but those small errors can create big challenges. Has anyone here had a docking or navigation moment where bad heading info caused problems?

I find the flux gate on most boats to be off by a large amount. Calibration rarely solves the problem. The only times we have had real success is when a professional compass adjuster has added external magnets. Unfortunately qualified adjusters are very hard to find these days.
