Lifelong sailor from Annapolis. I’ve been racing J/Boats for 15 years and just got into offshore cruising. Looking forward to sharing experiences and learning from everyone here!

Hey Mark, welcome! Another Annapolis sailor—love it! I’ve done plenty of cruising around the Chesapeake, but I have to admit, I’ve always been a little intimidated by the racing scene. J/Boats look like a blast, though! How’s the transition from racing to offshore cruising treating you? Are you finding it hard to slow down and enjoy the ride, or are you still trimming sails every five minutes? 😆

I agree with Susan — it’s hard to slow down when your brain is used to racing and always trying to improve. I just spent a week at the women’s racing clinic in St. Pete with NorthU, and that was on a J/70. Fantastic boat! I race Melges 24 regularly, so it was a nice similar boat with new people, and I learned a ton.

Hi Mark! Great to meet you! I am curious, you just got into off shore cruising… what do you like more? That or racing? Two different worlds?
