Would instructors like to have a meet-up at the next National Women’s Sailing Association conference in 2026? Menette Burns from the Louisiana Sailing School and I (from St. Augustine Sailing) are considering two seminars; one for prospective American Sailing instructors, and another for existing instructors to discuss educational techniques, pacing, teaching methodology, and evolving trends in sailing education. Let me know if you would be interested, and what topics you want presented/discussed. – Kim Walther

Hi Kim! Great idea. I have met Menette and we have discussed doing more at the conference. I would like to discuss “Growing the Women in Sailing Community.” How each of us can encourage more women to take the helm, what works / what we’ve tried that hasn’t worked, open discussion.

Nichole – I think that sounds like a great subject to include. It sounds like a topic that would warrant its own time slot and sub-topics. Can you write a proposal with a suggested amount of time for the discussion, and a rough outline of four to five mini topics / conversation starters to include? I would like to present your idea to the NWSA board if you haven’t already.
