The J/45: Fast, Comfortable, and Surprisingly Easy to Sail
I just raced the J/45 in the Annapolis to Newport Race — 475 miles of wind, waves, and sleepless sail changes — and I can confidently say: this boat is the real deal.
In fact, I like it so much I cruised it back to Annapolis the following weekend (yeah… you can do it in a weekend on a speedster like this) and this machine is just a capable of a cruiser as it is a racer.
J/Boats has a big racing reputation, but the J/45 adds something new: comfort. Not just “a pillow below deck” comfort, but “cruise for two weeks and love it” comfort — all while keeping the speed, control, and sleek style J/Boats are known for.
⛵ Why You’ll Love It (Even If You Don’t Race)
-
Smooth and stable ride — fast without being tippy or twitchy
-
Clean, easy-to-use cockpit — you won’t trip over a million ropes
-
Light and responsive steering — fun and confidence-boosting at the helm
-
Beautiful interior — bright, practical, and comfortable for real cruising
-
Smart design details — everything has a place and purpose – and there is a place for everything
It sails like a race boat, but lives like a cruiser — fast, quiet, and remarkably easy to handle. Whether you’re heading out for an afternoon sail or a long adventure, the J/45 is a boat that makes everyone on board feel like they belong there.
