Morse Alpha Expeditions

Morse Alpha is a small school with reputation for robust coastal and offshore sail training, specializing in mid and upper-level ASA classes.

Morse Alpha started in 2014 as an independent sailing school and is the culmination of over 30 years in the marine industry, working aboard educational tall ships, tugboats, commercial fishing boats, and an extensive variety of sailboats and sailing yachts. Equally important is our background in experiential education programs such as Sea Education Association, NOLS, and Outward Bound, which have greatly influenced our teaching philosophy. Our diverse experiences offer a unique perspective and a strong foundation in education. We’re not just sailors making a living doing what we love; we are dedicated educators who love to sail.

Our goal is not just to help you pass a test quickly for certification—but rather on equipping you with the skills that lead to competence, followed by confidence. All our courses are 100% live aboard. Our training vessel is Rocinante, a Norseman 447, designed by Bob Perry. Whether you plan to sail your own boat or charter, our mission is to ensure you’re fully prepared for the adventure. Every crew member gains a solid foundation in sailing, weather, navigation etc, as well as real-life leadership and communication skills – plus a feeling that they all got there together. This is real world, hands-on 24/7, coastal and offshore sailing education during which you will learn to manage all aspects of running the boat.

Each expedition is led by a USCG-licensed captain and mate. We take a maximum of five students for each class. That means effective and individualized instruction to meet you at your level and focus on what you need most. Our class offerings run from 6-15 days and provide an intensive and rewarding experience for every student.
