FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Los Angeles, July 8, 2026 – American Sailing Association (ASA) and marine navigation app Savvy Navvy today announced a partnership that will embed digital navigation tools into ASA’s sailing and powerboat education network.
The announcement coincides with American Sailing’s development of a new Electronic Navigation Course, which will incorporate Savvy Navvy as a primary digital navigation tool. It marks one of the first times a major sailing certification organization has formally embedded a consumer navigation platform into its curriculum.
ASA and AB instructors will receive free Professional Savvy Navvy accounts, students get exclusive member discounts, and all 400+ ASA school locations will also be added to the Savvy Navvy app, allowing users to locate accredited sailing and powerboat instruction from within the navigation platform.
“Although I love traditional paper charts, when I’m on the water, my phone or tablet is mounted in the cockpit. Every sailor I know does the same thing,” said David Taylor, CEO of American Sailing.
“We’ve certified over 600,000 sailors and boaters since 1983. This partnership is about putting the best available digital navigation tools in the hands of our instructors and students. It isn’t a technology decision – it’s an education decision.”
More than 5,000 marine professionals worldwide already use Savvy Navvy in their training, bringing charts, integrated weather, tidal data, and smart routing into the classroom and onto the water from day one. With more than three million downloads worldwide, the United States continues to be one of Savvy Navvy’s fastest-growing markets.
“Today’s boaters, especially those new to the water, are digital natives. They expect navigation to work seamlessly like everything else in their digital lives. ASA shares that understanding, and this partnership reflects a joint commitment to making digital navigation a standard part of boating education across the USA,” says David Cusworth, Head of Partnership and Innovation at Savvy Navvy.
Savvy Navvy provides smart routing – giving users optimal routes and dynamic ETAs based on real-time data: departure time, chart information, weather conditions, tide, waves, boat specifications, and local regulations.

About Savvy Navvy
Marine navigation company Savvy Navvy was founded in 2017 by lifelong boater and ex-Google software engineer Jelte Liebrand, who set out to replace the fragmented mix of charts, weather and tidal tools boaters relied on with a single, intuitive app. Today, Savvy Navvy is used in over 100 countries worldwide and has surpassed three million downloads globally. The app combines official-source charts, integrated weather, tidal data and smart routing to simplify passage planning and on-water navigation for recreational boaters of all levels, giving users optimal routes and dynamic ETAs based on real-time conditions, chart data and boat specifications. In 2024, Savvy Navvy launched Savvy Integrated, designed to create seamless navigation solutions for marine manufacturers, suppliers and OEM partners worldwide.
