This summer American Sailing Affiliate, Sail Buffalo, had a tremendously successful summer Youth Sailing program. 400 youth sailors hit the water to learn the art of sailing.

Sail Buffalo Sailing Director, Pierre Wallinder noted, “Our philosophy was to focus on the fun aspect and go with the weather versus racing in a variety of boat sizes. We also use both SUPs and canoes in inclement weather.”

If you take a look at the kids in the program you can see that everybody is smiling.

The Sail Buffalo Junior Sail Camp does more than teach sailing. They work on life lessons such as teamwork and camaraderie while working on their own self-confidence. The program takes place on Lake Erie on Buffalo’s inner Harbor.

The Nautical Day Camp

The Junior Sailing program is a full-day camp where students learn the skills required to become confident and safe sailors. As students of different skill levels work together learning the basics of sailing eventually they evolve into participating in specialized programs that aim to work on individual skills.

The social aspect of sailing intertwines with social behavior among the group. Life skills that involve collaboration, communication, and personal goals are all part of this program that aims to be more than a sailing camp.

For more info on the camp take a look at Sail Buffalo’s website:  https://www.sail-buffalo.org/junior-sail-camp/
