  • Anchoring in Commencement Bay: Avoiding Fouling Mishaps!

Posted by Darren on March 10, 2025 at 6:44 pm

Sailors, have you ever had the frustration of fouling your anchor in Commencement Bay? You’re not alone! With underwater debris, old moorings, and shifting sediment, it’s easy to get stuck. Here’s how to avoid a headache:

✅ Check the Charts – Know the bottom conditions and avoid known hazards

✅ Use a Trip Line or Buoy – This can help free a stuck anchor.

✅ Anchor Smart – Drop in a clear area, avoiding wreck zones and old cables

✅ Gentle Retrieval – Don’t yank! Work it loose with steady pressure.

Love trip lines! Can be very iseful in busy anchorages to give you a visial on where your anchor is too 🙂 Have you seen that cool anchor / trip line camera /gps? Cool idea though not sure how useful it would be in our murky northwest waters 🙂
