New Sailor
I am fortunate to coach sailors who are sailing some of the newest boats on the market. As the looks get sleeker and the storage cubbies get fewer and fewer; we’ve had to some up with some slick solutions for cockpit storage.
One of the things that works well on any boat is the little wine bottle carrying bags. Often, they have four perfectly sized vertical compartments you can use to store your water bottle and your personal kit. We use one for our on-deck safety items too; because those pockets are perfectly sized for our handheld VHF, sound producing device (air horn) and a winch handle. We put a little sticky mat rubber on the bottom and they stick to the cockpit floor, but are easy to strike off the deck when we get to the dock and want that clean modern look.
They are cheap too! And we can hand one out to each crew member (we bedazzle ours to personalize them) so that when I come across your loose phone, or readers or sunscreen, it is easy to slip it into your bag and keep moving.
A place for everything. Everything in its place!
