Grand Bahama Sailing Club

Learn to sail in paradise only a 45 minute flight from Fort Lauderdale or Miami. The Grand Bahama Sailing Club is simply a sailing school. We are here to help you reach your dream of sailing your own boat not to sell you a charter on one of ours.

Located in Freeport, Grand Bahama we are one of the less visited islands of Bahamas. You can get a taste of real Bahamian life away from the charter fleets and crowds of tourists. Our warm clear waters can be sailed year round. Our large canal system provides a protected area for practicing docking and anchoring maneuvers. We can sail behind the reef on blustery days while in our typically fair weather it is only a mile and half before you find yourself in the deep blue waters of the North West Providence Channel.

Our class size is restricted to 4 students ensuring that you will get the full attention of our instructor. Jamie Halpin is a professional educator with 23 years of experience teaching high school science and a lifetime of experience sailing and teaching sailing. You will start your sailing journey the same way Jamie did aboard Surfrider. Our 101 boat is a Shark 24 named after the Shark 24 that Jamie started sailing aboard when he was 2 weeks old. She is easy to control, easy to sail, and her shallow draft makes her perfect for sailing inside the reef.

For 103 and 104 you will step up to our C&C 30, Windsong, like Jamie did at the age of 5. She is a remarkably fast and easy to handle live aboard cruiser. Jamie spent his childhood summers living aboard her while cruising the North Channel of Georgian Bay with his family. As an adult he started venturing further afield to lake Superior before heading down the Saint Lawrence to the sea. His first year long solo cruise took him north to Newfoundland before heading south along the intracoastal waterway of the US, to the Bahamas, and Jamaica, ending in Panama. A second year long solo cruise took him to Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, Mexico, and finally to Florida.
