At SOUL Sailing, we believe that anyone can learn to sail. By using small boats with a traditionally rigged set-up, students are exposed to basic concepts of sailing in a hands-on approach. Sailing is about feeling, understanding, and connecting with the environment around you. Our focus is on enjoying the water, but students are also exposed to the historically appropriate terminology. Students are encouraged to ask questions and learn by doing. We recognize that everyone learns at their own pace and we work to tailor the experience of sailing to the various levels of familiarity and comfort of our students.
Our lead instructor is Captain Dave Jenkins. Captain Dave has an infectious love of the water! He began his career as a sailor on small wooden boats in Sippican Harbor while attending Tabor Academy; the “School by the Sea.” While at Tabor, he was fortunate enough to be able to spend time aboard their premier teaching vessel the SSV Tabor Boy. Dave’s enthusiasm only grew from there. After owning several small sailboats of his own, he decided to share this love with others. Captain Dave has taught sailing in various NY waterways, including New York Harbor and Long Island Sound. He also volunteers with the historic NYC Fireboat the John J. Harvey.
SOUL Sailing offers several different sailing lesson options. Whether you have never sailed before, or are an experienced sailor who just needs a refresher, SOUL Sailing has something to fit your needs. If you’re not sure which sailing option suits you best, contact us!
