Your goal is to go cruising, so why wouldn’t you begin your training with ocean sailing? Myrtle Beach Sailing School is perfectly situated to offer true coastal cruising experiences while you are learning to sail. Skills that you will need when it is your turn to hop aboard your sailboat, cast off the lines, and head south for the winter.
Learn about ocean sailing, inlets, tides, currents, traveling the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), VHF radio communication, locating anchorages, anchoring skills, and more.
Our sailboat fleet consists of monohulls and a catamaran, ranging from 32ft to 45ft, allowing you to learn and “get a feel” for multiple boats.
95% of our sailing is on the Atlantic Ocean, preparing you for the ever-changing conditions and challenges that come with them. To get to the ocean you will learn to travel the ICW and Little River Inlet, allowing you to use your new knowledge of aids-to-navigation (atons) to keep you safe. Advanced courses include round-trip 50 to 100+ nautical mile passages and anchoring behind beautiful uninhabited islands and creeks.
MBSS offers lessons in three different formats:
- Individual Classes (3 to 5 days long)
- Combination Classes (4 to 6 days long)
- Private Couple/Pair Classes (5 to 6 days long)
We pride ourselves on hiring sailors who know how to teach (not just sail), have real-world experiences to share, and are passionate about sailing!
