Croatia often comes up as one of the dream destinations for experienced sailors. While a majority of new ASA students mention the British Virgin Islands as their desired destination it is almost as if the moment sailors become confident in their bareboat skills they graduate to dreaming of Croatia and sailing the Adriatic Sea.
Croatia is rich with culture and has an abundance of anchorages with hundreds of tiny islands dotting the coast. Friendly locals and a rich sailing history make Croatia a coveted spot for a European sailing vacation. You will need an International Proficiency Certificate to sail in many parts of Europe so you’ll want to check with your charter company. Take a look at ASA school Adriatic Sailing Academy to help you plan your Croatia Sailing Adventure.
International Proficiency Certificate

This certificate is mandatory when chartering in most European / Mediterranean waters. It serves as proof of bareboat charter competency for Mediterranean chartering companies, many of whom require the proficiency information displayed in a different format than the ASA Logbook.

Sailed Croatia last September. 5 islands over 7 days out of Split, Croatia. It reminded me of California a lot. We had a great time on each island, exploring its history and geographical features like the Blue Cave. The marinas we stopped at each night were full service and in the middle of the action. Used the internet to make my mooring reservations. We had 7 cats in our group.
