American Sailing Schools can be found around the world, and new additions happen on a regular basis. One of our newest schools is not so new. White Caps Sailing in Punta Gorda, Florida, is a new school, but the sailing school owners have been affiliated with the American Sailing Association since 2008.
Capt. Jean “John” and “Admiral” Mila De Keyser have been sailing with American Sailing members around the world through their ever-popular flotillas. Jean was certified as an instructor in 2008 and, together with Mila, has been organizing flotillas with ASA in the Mediterranean and other exotic places for the last 14 years.
They were one of the first ASA affiliates to organize such flotillas in Croatia, Mallorca, Tuscany, Turkey, and the Seychelles and apart from putting these fun events together, they also teach ASA classes in Florida and the Mediterranean.
The concept of a sailing vacation that combines a classroom and a cultural experience has been practically invented by the De Keysers. Now, they have formed their sailing school, White Caps Sailing, and will reach an even larger community of sailors.
Whitecaps Sailing offers ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, 106, 114 and 118 classes and has instructors on staff both in Florida and in the Mediterranean.
The Sailing Vacation
During the winter months, students can head down to Florida, where they can earn their certification that will allow them to charter in the Mediterranean.
During the late spring, summer, and fall, students have two options to get their certifications. One is to join a flotilla that will have a separate teaching boat with an instructor, or they can schedule a class in Croatia, Greece, or Spain.
