The American Sailing (ASA) announces that Peter Isler has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board, effective immediately. Isler, a world-renowned sailor, America’s Cup veteran, and best-selling author, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the ASA. Isler fills the role left open when ASA’s founder and long-time Chairman of the Board passed away in January.
As Chairman of the Board, Isler will lead the ASA in its mission to promote and enhance sailing education, safety, and environmental awareness. He will work closely with the Board of Directors and the ASA leadership team to develop and implement strategic initiatives that will ensure the long-term success and growth of the organization.
“The recent passing of my dear friend, Lenny Shabes, left a huge hole in my heart – his vision made all that we have done at ASA possible. I am humbled to take over his long-time role of Chairman of the Board for American Sailing, and I do so in Lenny’s honor and inspired by his memory,” said Isler. “I have been involved with American Sailing since the inception of the organization, and I look forward to working with our great team in this new role.”
Peter Isler has parlayed his love of sailing into a career. Inextricable from the America’s Cup since winning it as navigator aboard Dennis Conner’s Stars & Stripes in Australia in 1987, he has sailed in five Cup campaigns, winning it twice. He founded two America’s Cup teams, including the America³ Women’s Team.. Serving as a TV commentator, Peter has covered five America’s Cups and been a member of two Emmy award-winning broadcast teams. He recently created the online school: Marine Weather University through his company, Isler Sailing International. Peter continues to be active at the grand prix level of sailing. Just last week he navigated Roy Disney’s Pyewacket70 to overall victory in the RORC Caribbean 600.
