When you think of Los Angeles you probably have images of Hollywood or Disneyland.  You might think about Santa Monica Beach or Malibu but most likely you don’t automatically think about sailing.

You should be thinking about Sailing in Los Angeles.

Sailing within minutes of Downtown Los Angeles is easily attainable. Whether you decide on Sailing in Santa Monica Bay or out of Long Beach you can work on your sailing education while enjoying Southern California.

Why You Should Sail In Los Angeles

It’s always sunny in LA:  When the rest of the country is under 2 feet of snow, the sailing season is going on 12 months out of the year in Los Angeles.  Some of the best days of sailing can be had in January in the middle of winter.

LA is more than beaches and palm trees: Los Angeles is a diverse city with a rich cultural and entertainment scene. Travel to Los Angels to sail and you’ll find time to sample some of the best restaurants in the country, visit world-class museums, and have an endless amount of options for nightlife and entertainment.

Santa Monica Bay is ideal for a beginner: Set sail on Santa Monica Bay and you’ll be in the ideal classroom for anyone who is learning to sail. The winds are predictable if not light and the swell and current or manageable the majority of the time.  From migrating whales to views of the Hollywood sign or snow-capped mountains Santa Monica Bay is a dream for novice sailors.

Take a multi-day sailing trip to Catalina: If you want to expand your sailing resume, Los Angeles has its own islands to sail to. Catalina Island is ideal for a multi-day trip with a small taste of island life and the LA vibe mixed together. Earn your advanced sailing certifications on the way to a weekend getaway. Don’t even get me started on the Channel Islands

There are a lot of sailing schools in the Los Angeles area to choose from: These are the schools within 60 miles of Los Angeles. Why such a large radius?  Los Angeles is a big region and ASA schools are spread out in multiple hubs.  You can learn to sail a few minutes from Downtown Los Angeles or you could drive north to Ventura or south to Orange County.  Ultimately, if you choose to visit the Los Angeles area to sail you have plenty of options when it comes to finding a sailing school.
