I forgot to mention tag lines for controlling that kite of a dinghy when hoisting aloft!

One of my biggest takeaways was that there are plenty of sailors still using hank-on jibs, roller-furling mains, and enjoying sailing on all sizes of boats. If there’s anything you particularly liked in the class, please let me know. If there’s anything you disagreed with – please let me know, with a different method to consider.

If you have any techniques you have used – please share.

For example; sometimes we bring coolers down the dock, then empty the drinks into a canvas bag to halve the weight, then re-unite the drinks with the cooler and ice once on board.

One of my favorite parts of the class was seeing how small adjustments like foot positioning or how you hold a line, can make a huge difference in strength and control. I loved that the tips were super practical and easy to apply right away. In my most recent sailing adventure I put some skills to the test when throwing dock lines and separating it into two sections and then throwing. Life changer!

You are not the first person who said practicing heaving lines was beneficial! When it needs to count, at the dock, wind blowing, conditions extreme… it feels good to know you’ve practiced a necessary skill.
