At Shake-A-Leg Miami, learning to sail is about so much more than earning a certification. It’s about discovering the freedom, confidence, and joy that come from being on the water.
Located in the heart of Coconut Grove, our waterfront campus sits on the protected waters of beautiful Biscayne Bay, one of the country’s best places for new sailors to learn. With warm weather year-round, steady breezes, and breathtaking views of the Miami skyline, every class is an unforgettable experience.
Our ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing course is designed for beginners and taught by experienced, ASA-certified instructors who create a fun, supportive, and hands-on learning environment. Whether you’re stepping onto a sailboat for the first time or looking to build a solid foundation, we’ll guide you every step of the way. You’ll learn essential sailing skills including sail trim, steering, points of sail, docking, tacking, jibing, safety procedures, and how to confidently skipper a 20 to 27-foot sloop-rigged keelboat in light to moderate conditions.
What truly sets Shake-A-Leg Miami apart is our commitment to inclusion. As a nonprofit community boating center and a global leader in adaptive sailing, we’ve created a place where everyone belongs. Our accessible facilities, specialized equipment, and experienced instructors make it possible for people of all abilities to enjoy the sport together. Veterans, families, students, individuals with disabilities, and lifelong sailors all share the same docks, classrooms, and adventures.
Our weekend course schedule makes it easy to fit sailing into your life, and sponsored registration rates are available for eligible participants, including Veterans, Sea Scouts, Students, Teachers, Miami-Dade County employees, and individuals with disabilities.
When you complete your course, you won’t just leave with an ASA certification. You’ll become part of a welcoming sailing community that continues to learn, explore, and celebrate life on Biscayne Bay. Whether you’re joining a Bay Day, volunteering, racing, or simply enjoying a sunset sail, your next adventure starts her.
