Red Sky Sailing is your passport to charter worldwide — the first American Sailing-affiliated school in Barcelona, offering ASA certifications and week-long liveaboard sailing vacations along the Spanish Mediterranean. Every course is taught entirely in English aboard well-maintained keelboats ranging from 28 to 46 feet, including racing sloops for ASA 101, coastal cruising monohulls for ASA 103 and 104, and cruising catamarans for ASA 114.
Our founder and principal captain, Michael LaMaina, is a USCG Unlimited Tonnage Master currently operating Maersk container ships on transatlantic routes between the United States and Northern Europe. He brings commercial maritime expertise, thousands of sea miles, and a professional approach to small-boat instruction. All Red Sky courses are taught by experienced ASA-credentialed instructors with deep local knowledge of Catalan waters.
Sailing from Port Olímpic, students experience some of the finest cruising grounds in Europe. Warm water from May through October, reliable 10–15 knot afternoon thermal winds, and short passage distances give students genuine time at the helm. Our week-long liveaboard vacations cover the Costa Dorada (UNESCO Roman ruins, flamingos at the Delta de l’Ebre, the best seafood port in Spain) or the wild and dramatic Costa Brava (medieval fishing villages, turquoise coves, dinners ashore at Michelin-starred restaurants you reach only by sea). Our flagship Catalan Passage combines both coasts into two weeks. For travelers who want Barcelona city life on top, Barcelona Sailing Week lets students sail by day and either return to their own hotel each night or stay aboard — their choice — with one memorable overnight together in Sitges.
